Amba Estate nestles in the highlands of Uva province in Sri Lanka, amidst forested hills and meandering waterfalls. A cool climate surrounds Amba Estate due to its elevation.
The small, organic estate is 26-acres, where Sri Lankan women hand-pluck and roll tea leaves by hand, resulting in fine tea unlike that of larger, commercial estates. Amba’s philosophy speaks of a respect towards the biodiversity, and a focus of quality craftsmanship. Tea bushes in the estate are grown free of pesticides and chemicals. When plucking tea, while most quality teas require a standard of 2 leaves and a bud, Amba goes a step further in selecting a single leaf and a bud. While this means that the yield is lower than commercial estates, what you get is true quality.
To truly allow the tea to shine, Amba processes the black tea by hand in the most traditional sense. Sri Lankan ladies roll by hand rather than using large machinery. The Camellia Ceylon we carry from Amba is a testament of true craftsmanship: organically-grown, fine, hand-rolled black tea that captures the taste of pure Ceylon tea, adorned with dried tea flowers to add a touch of beauty.
